Which Words Appear Most Often in Slot Titles?
We counted the titles of 4,471 slots. From Fortune to Super, the ten most frequent words reveal both what we hope to find in a slot and how games introduce themselves.

If Bonanza or Rush came to mind first, the results may be a surprise. In this count, Bonanza appeared in 84 titles and Rush in 63. Fortune took first place.
The ranking deserves more than a quick glance. Words play different roles in a title, and some that seem popular in their own right turn out to spend most of their time paired with another word.
1. Fortune: Luck and Wealth in One Word
Fortune can mean both luck and wealth. It brings together the nature of a slot game and the reward a player hopes to receive.
The outcome of an individual spin is not determined by player skill or match analysis. Being able to wait for a result without making complex judgments can itself be part of the appeal. Add the prospect of a large prize from a small stake, and both meanings of Fortune come into focus.
A comparison with sports betting makes the distinction clearer. The single-match, three-way odds in the example below range from roughly 1.2 to 10 times the stake. Some slots, by contrast, advertise maximum wins in the tens of thousands of times the bet. A winning sports bet and a rare maximum slot win are not events with equivalent probabilities, but the comparison illustrates the different scales of reward and expectation the two formats present.
A game of chance, with wealth as the hoped-for reward. It is hard to put the appeal of Fortune as a slot-title word more succinctly.
2. Hold: A Name That Explains the Appeal
Hold makes immediate sense when you think of Hold & Win: prize symbols stay in place while you wait for more to appear during the remaining chances.
In a conventional free-spin round, you watch to see what the next spins will pay. In Hold & Win, the prize symbols already on the screen provide a visible reference point. Respins add a repeated cycle of tension as chances run down and relief when a new symbol lands. Rather than guaranteeing a profit, the appeal lies in seeing rewards accumulate in front of you.
Putting Hold & Win in a title communicates that experience directly. Even an unfamiliar game can offer a familiar feature name as a reason to take a closer look.
SlotWise has been organizing slot data since around July 2025. The frequency of Hold in this collection shows how prominently the feature is presented in the names of the games we have gathered.
3. Wild: Both a Feature and a Personality
Wild was a little unexpected at first. Separating references to the feature from references to themes such as jungles or animals seemed like a useful way to understand it. Looking through the actual titles, though, often made that division harder rather than easier.
In slots, Wild refers to a symbol that substitutes for others. It also evokes something untamed and free-spirited. A title such as Wild Gorillas suggests animals in the wild while leaving room for an expectation of wild-symbol features. Names such as Wild Stacks or Wild Frames put more emphasis on the mechanic.
The word's strength does not lie in just one of those meanings. Its ability to express a game feature and the character of a theme at the same time makes it particularly useful in a title.
Joint 4th. Gold: The Strength of Simplicity
Gold needs little explanation. It immediately brings precious metal, wealth, and valuable rewards to mind. It fits naturally into a title without requiring a description of a particular feature or an elaborate fictional world.
It pairs easily with many themes and conveys a clear image of reward in just four letters. Sometimes the simplest name does the job best.
Joint 4th. Win: Usually in the Company of Hold
It seems obvious that Win would be a popular word. But splitting up the 148 titles containing it changes the picture: 118, or about 79.7%, also contain Hold. Only 30 do not.
Much of its presence comes from the feature name Hold & Win, rather than from Win being a widely used standalone reward word. Those 30 titles without Hold fall well short of the 98 containing Super, which sits in tenth place.
Where Fortune evokes luck and wealth that may come your way, Win more directly expresses the act of winning or obtaining something. That linguistic contrast is interesting, but the clearer finding in the data is this: Hold & Win has become a recognizable name in its own right.
6. Hot: A Little Heat Goes a Long Way
Hot conveys heat, intensity, and excitement in a short word. It works with visual themes such as flames and red palettes, and can establish a mood without explaining a specific feature.
If Gold supplies an image of reward, Hot turns up the sensory temperature. It adds energy to a title without having to explain exactly what is hot.
Joint 7th. Coins: The Feature Behind the Money
At first, Coins looks like another versatile money word, much like Gold. But consider how often prize symbols in Hold & Win are represented as coins, and another possibility emerges.
We checked the feature information and descriptions of all 112 slots containing Coins. 90, or about 80.4%, had an identifiable connection to Hold & Respin-style features: 74 through feature tags and another 16 through descriptions. Only eight titles explicitly included Hold & Win.
Where Win spells out a feature name, Coins can evoke the rewards collected and accumulated within it. The connection to the mechanic was too pronounced to dismiss it as merely a generic word for money.
Joint 7th. X: Specifications in a Single Letter
X had the widest variety of uses in this list. Beside a number, it can indicate a multiplier; in forms such as 3x3 or 4x4, it describes a grid. It can connect names or appear as part of another word, as in X-mas.
Of the 112 titles, 48 used numerical or multiplier notation, 32 used grid notation, and one used both. 81, or about 72.3%, conveyed numerical or layout information.
A multiplier in a title does not always mean the maximum win, and a grid may describe a bonus screen rather than the base reels. There is still a common thread: the title tries to communicate a key number or configuration at a glance.
Where Fortune stirs expectation, X paired with numbers compresses information. A single letter does a surprisingly practical job.
9. Lucky: Putting Luck First
Of the 104 titles containing Lucky, 76 begin with it. Include titles where only a number precedes it, such as 3 Lucky Monkeys, and 87, or about 83.7%, place Lucky near the beginning. A concrete animal or object is given the abstract quality of luck.
From that position at the front of the name, Lucky frames the game itself as something associated with good fortune.
10. Super: Stronger Features, Bigger Versions
Using the same measure, 59 of the 98 Super titles, or about 60.2%, place the word near the beginning. Combinations such as Super Wheel, Super Scatter, and Super Bonus suggest a more powerful or expanded feature. In other cases, Super follows an existing name like an enhanced-edition label.
Both words modify something, but Lucky can add an atmosphere of good fortune, while Super can suggest an enhanced feature or version. They do different jobs in a title despite both sounding positive.
There is also a contrast with Fortune. As a noun, Fortune lends itself to a trailing position in a title such as 3 Pots Fortune. Lucky and Super normally need a position that makes clear what they modify. In Lucky 3 Pots, the abstract promise of luck comes before the objects or feature being presented. That flexibility in word order can make a small but useful difference when naming a game.
What Does a Short Title Say First?
Following these ten words revealed that a slot title is more than decoration. Fortune and Gold lead with the reward people hope for, Hold and Win with a familiar feature, and X with a key specification. Wild can carry several meanings at once.
Among rows of thumbnails, a title has little time to make an impression. Does it evoke luck and wealth, signal a recognizable mechanic, or show a difference through numbers? Looking at the words that recur most often makes the ways slots introduce themselves a little easier to see.
